Golden 1 Center Address: 500 David J Stern Walk, Sacramento, CA 95814
About this Arena:
This arena is part of an arena called Downton Commons (DoCo) and the street was named after former NBA Commissioner David Stern to honor the persistent and decades-long effort to keep the franchise in Sacramento. The unique design of this building includes locally sourced and recycled material including: glass, aluminum, concrete & wood. The Sacramento Kings began using the arena since the 2016–2017 NBA season. The Kings’ first game at the arena was on October 10, 2016, against Maccabi Haifa B.C. in a preseason game, winning 135–96.
Notable Arena Features:
They have some notable artwork including a piece from famous artist Jeff Koons (Coloring Book #4) and local artist Gale Hart (Missing the Mark).
If you take the escalator to the 2nd floor you can see an assortment of jerseys for every year the Kings have been in Sacramento (1985 – present).
There are windows to the practice court and you may be able to see it or even a player if you come early enough.
Look up at the ceilings / open parts — when the weather is right, the façade/glass hangars/open doors make for unique lighting / ambiance. Also look for the “Multitudes Converge” artwork in the escalator atrium — the suspended spheres — they’re visually cool and give you a sense of place/the river theme.
If the Kings win, you will be in for a treat. There are six massive, laser beams that light purple beams into the sky and it can be seen from miles away. They call this “Light the Beam.”
